ARS Assistant Principals Kris Waugh and Anah Wiersema presented at a SXSWedu Playground Talk on Monday, March 9th. Ms. Waugh and Ms. Wiersema spoke about the school’s MakerSpace and discussed the success of adopting the maker philosophy in a Project-Based learning curriculum.

8th grader Bella Thomas competed against students from around the country at the National Performing Arts Competition at Disney in Orlando, FL the weekend of February 22nd. She won a “Best Individual Performance” Medal as “Little Inez” in Hairspray. Congratulations Bella!

ARS hosted the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools Board meeting over the weekend of February 7th-8th. NCGS is the leading advocate for girls’ education.
ARS hosted Impact Austin for the ?MakerSpace? Ribbon Cutting ceremony. The Impact Austin grant help convert an old shop classroom to a modern-day learning environment and shop with 3D printers, a laser cutter, table saw, miter saw, band saw, scroll saw, drill press, belt sander, sewing machines, and workbenches. Sophomores Asha Mani and Cypress Lefebre were named finalists in the Tiny Victories architectural design competition. This competition featured submissions from architects throughout the country, all aiming to provide a home for the homeless by creating innovative, affordable, and efficient housing in Austin.
The Stars Youth & Government team competed at state and claimed the state championship in Mock Trials, received the Model UN Distinguished Delegate award, and had top awards for Student Judge, Student Attorney and received the award as the Premier Delegation for representing the Ann Richards School in an esteemed manner (meeting deadlines, being on... The Stars Orchestra competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest with all twelve participants receiving a rating of Excellent or Superior, the highest two ratings. One ensemble qualified for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May. This will be the First time the Stars Orchestra participates for state!
