8th Graders Design Better Rain Gear for Homeless Population

Ms. Josephson’s 8th grade STEM class started the spring semester with a design challenge to create an affordable, durable, and better raincoat for individuals experiencing homelessness. Students worked in groups, were provided a $10 budget for materials, and researched ways to enhance a rain poncho so that it would be more effective rain gear. Each group designed, created a prototype, and tested the effectiveness of their rain gear to present to their peers. The 8th-grade class voted for their favorite and most protective rain gear after a grade-level presentation.
