Attendance

Attendance matters and every day counts!

When you miss school, you miss out – not only on academic enrichment,
but on fine arts and extracurricular opportunities and camaraderie with fellow students.

Attendance Message

Regular attendance in all classes is an expectation of all Austin ISD students. State law and District policy state that students must be in attendance for 90% of the instructional days for a class to receive credit. A student who misses more days than allowed by AISD policy, excused or unexcused, may not be given credit for that class unless time and/or work is made up for the absences. Students will work with the grade level administrator to complete the appropriate steps to reach compliance.

Notification Message

    • Send in documentation of student absences using the School Absence Form on the Austin ISD website.
    • Complete a paper form (pick up in Front Office) – please attach your documentation for the absence.
    • We DO NOT accept phone calls or voicemail messages as documentation for a student’s absence.
    • Set up notifications for your student’s attendance and grades via Parent Self Serve.
Learn more about attendance descriptions and codes.

Arrival Procedure

7:00 to 8:15 a.m. – You can drop off your student between 7:00 – 8:15 AM at the student entry parent drop-off sign, not the main entrance.

To keep things moving smoothly and avoid any traffic jams, please pull all the way up to the parent drop-off sign, ensuring teachers have access to their parking area.

During this time, students will have supervised access to the Commons area.

8:15 to 9:00 a.m. – Parents drop off at the parent drop off/pick up side entrance.
9:00 a.m. to 4:35 p.m. – Students arriving late must enter the building through the main entrance, check in at the front office, where a tardy pass will be issued to enter class.

Check Out Procedure

Please do not plan to pick up your child from school after 4:00 p.m. to alleviate congestion and confusion at the end of the school day. Parents should follow the steps below to check out their child from school for an appointment or other reasons:

    • Park your car in a campus parking spot. We ask that you do not park in front of the main entrance stairs. Please don’t impede the flow of traffic.
    • Enter the main office and present your driver’s license or any official identification like a passport.
    • The office staff will complete the checkout process to document the student’s departure from campus.
    • The office staff will call for your child from class or send a staff member to retrieve them.

Verification of Enrollment (VOE) – Driver Licenses

    • Must be in attendance for 90% of the days the class was offered in the previous semester.
    • Please do not request a VOE if the student’s appointment is more than 30 days from the request.
