More than 175 incoming 6th through 9th grade students kicked off their summer by taking part in Transition Camp, an annual Ann Richards School tradition that helps new Stars build confidence, make connections, and learn what it means to be part of the Star community.
Throughout the week, campers met future classmates, connected with current Stars, and learned about the values, traditions, and opportunities that make the Ann Richards School unique. Through team-building activities, games, crafts, and hands-on learning experiences, students explored the school’s mission and pillars while getting a firsthand look at life as a Star.
A highlight of the week was time spent in the MakerSpace, where students were introduced to the school’s culture of creativity and innovation. Campers learned foundational building skills while constructing letters that represented one of the school’s character trait words, giving them an opportunity to work together, problem-solve, and bring their creations to life.
Students also participated in a science experiment that challenged them to separate the colors hidden within a pen’s ink, discovering the different color combinations that create what appears to be a single color. The activity encouraged curiosity and critical thinking while showcasing the hands-on learning experiences they can expect throughout their time at Ann Richards.
In addition to learning about school traditions, uniforms, and the pillars of the mission statement, campers enjoyed daily lunches in the cafeteria with beloved staff members Mr. Frank and Ms. Donna serving up delicious meals, helping students feel even more at home on campus.
The week concluded with a celebration of new friendships and shared experiences as students gathered for a popsicle party generously provided by the Pop Stars dad group. The sweet treat was the perfect way to close out a week filled with learning, laughter, and community building.
