Star Students Take the Stage at Austin Women in Tech

Last week, our Star students had the opportunity to be part of something special at the Western Governors University Austin Women in Tech Impactors Network gathering, held at Austin Community College’s Rio Grande Campus. Students, nonprofit leaders, and community partners came together with a shared goal of opening more doors for girls and women in STEM and technology.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was the panel featuring senior Anamaia, an Engineering Pathway student, sophomore Anokhi from the Biomedical Pathway, and Peggy Hanley, Executive Director of the Ann Richards School Foundation. Anamaia and Anokhi spoke candidly about what it means to see women who look like them in leadership roles and why that visibility matters. They reflected on how their experience at Ann Richards has strengthened their confidence and encouraged them to raise their hands, ask questions, and imagine themselves in careers where women have not always been represented.

Peggy built on their reflections by sharing how the Foundation works behind the scenes to secure funding and partnerships that expand opportunity for students. She emphasized that preparing young women for STEM careers is not only about access, but about leadership and long-term impact. The conversation was rooted in the belief that when young women are supported and challenged, they rise.

Students and leaders from Girl Scouts of Central Texas and Latinitas also shared their own stories, adding depth and energy to the discussion. Together, the young leaders from all three organizations reminded everyone in the room that the future of technology is already taking shape. It looks confident, determined, and ready to lead.
