While many students spent their first week of summer vacation enjoying time off, our rising seniors from the Class of 2027 were back on campus taking an important step toward their college dreams.
The annual Writers’ Workshop brought together our Stars and faculty members from the English and Language Arts department for a week of focused work on their college essay.
With small-group support and individualized feedback, Stars spent the week brainstorming topics, organizing their ideas, and turning their experiences into compelling stories that reflect who they are and what they hope to achieve.
Faculty members worked closely with students to help guide them, strengthen their writing, and build confidence in sharing their unique voices. By the end of the week, many Stars had completed a strong draft of their college essay.
A special part of the week was the involvement of our Star alumni, who returned to campus to volunteer their time and support the next generation of Ann Richards School graduates. Alumni met with rising seniors to review essay drafts, provide feedback, brainstorm ideas, and share advice from their own college application experiences. Their perspective helped students refine their essays while offering encouragement and insight from those who have recently navigated the same process.
The Writers’ Workshop is made possible through funding from the Ann Richards School Foundation and is one of the many ways the school invests in helping every Star navigate the path to college. The workshop not only helps students make meaningful progress on their applications, but also gives them a head start before the busy senior year begins.
