The Ann Richards School Foundation proudly honored Dr. Ruth Simmons, president emerita of Smith College, Brown University, and Prairie View A&M University, and author of Up Home: One Girl’s Journey, a New York Times bestseller, with the Ann Richards Legacy Award at Reach for the Stars on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Reach for the Stars is the Foundation’s annual fundraising gala to recognize the graduating class of the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders and celebrate their bright futures.
The Ann Richards Legacy Award recognizes those who serve as role models to the young women at the Ann Richards School and throughout our nation and the world. The award is presented annually to a person of high achievement who exemplifies Ann’s qualities of grit, leadership, and generosity to others.
Dr. Ruth Simmons’ story illustrates the transformative power of education and open-mindedness, themes that resonate deeply with our mission at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.
Event proceeds from Reach for the Stars support the Ann Richards School Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that ensures Ann Richards School students gain the confidence and skills to apply, attend, and graduate from college.
