Lights Out Texas, 7th Grader Helps Migratory Birds

Ann Richards School 7th grader Lily R. spent her Thursday after school providing public comment at City Hall to speak in favor of a resolution for the City of Austin to turn off all non-essential lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Lily shared, “light pollution is a problem we have come to live with, sometimes the Stars at night are not even visible deep in the heart of Texas. For us, this is sad, but for birds, this could mean death during migration.” The resolution passed and will help protect millions of migratory birds that migrate at night through the central flyway over Austin.
