The Ann Richards School joins millions of people around the world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, the beloved artist, philanthropist, and lifelong champion for dreamers.
For the Ann Richards School community, Dolly’s legacy holds a special connection to one of our own.
In 2016, Class of 2016 graduate Isabela P. was a senior at the Ann Richards School when she won an essay contest that gave her the opportunity to interview Dolly for the Ann Richards School Foundation’s annual Reach for the Stars gala. The interview took place at Dollywood and became a once-in-a-lifetime experience that Isabela still treasures 10 years later.
This week, KVUE featured Isabela’s story as she reflected on the interview and the lasting impression Dolly made.
During their conversation, Isabela asked Dolly about her proudest accomplishments, the challenges she faced as a woman in the music industry, and the women who inspired her. Their conversation also touched on Ann Richards, the late Texas governor and namesake of the school.
For Isabela, and for all of us at the Ann Richards School, the memory of that day is now even more meaningful. We are grateful that one of our Stars had the opportunity to sit down with a woman whose music, generosity, humor, and belief in the power of dreaming touched generations.
Dolly Parton inspired people to dream big and believe in what was possible. She also used her extraordinary success to open doors and create opportunities for others, especially young people. That spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.
