Middle school Algebra students spent their Friday at the New Worlds – Cities in Space Student Design and Competition. These Stars created a planetary colony using Google Sketchup to test their engineering, art, architecture and science skills. One team, El Marte, placed second in the competition.
The Ann Richards School Marching Band competed in the Bands of America – Austin Regional and won first place in the Class A division on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Ms. Roberts’ 8th grade STARS (Success Through Academics, Resiliency and Service) class spent the first part of the school year researching seven Texas universities to get ready for a college booth themed presentation to their 7th grade sisters. These 8th graders researched and created brochures to share in preparation for the ARS College Fair.
The USAF Band of the West Freedom Brass Quintet visited ARS on Wednesday, September 7 and treated the band students to a fantastic performance. After the performance band students asked questions about performing, being a musician in the military, and how they practice their music.
The student body at the Ann Richards School contributes over 10,000 hours of volunteer work to the Austin community each year. Those Stars who completed their hours of service over the summer were treated to a petting zoo with a lemur, deer, sheep and a bunny.
August 22, 2016 marks the first day of school for the 10th year of the Ann Richards School. Ten years ago ARS started with 224 sixth and seventh graders. Today there are over 800 students in grades six through twelve. ARS is excited for another great year with the Stars!
The ARS Soccer team heads in to the final regular season game of the year against Bastrop with a 7-4-1 record and a spot in the 26-5A District playoffs. Senior Alexis Segura also signed her letter of intent to play Division III soccer at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas next year. Go Stars Go!

Marathoner Kristen Zaitz visited with the ARS Cross Country team and Marathon High students two days before competing and winning the 3M Half Marathon. Class of 2014 graduate and Rider University student Raven Moreno was honored with the Woman of Power Young Entrepreneur Award for her work with Stream Energy.
