Ann Richards School Teacher Shamaa Lakshmanan Honored as Middle School Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to Shamaa Lakshmanan who has been selected as Austin Independent School District's Middle School Teacher of the Year!

Austin School Superintendent Pat Forgione paid a surprise visit to campus on Wednesday, April 9th to present Ms. Lakshmanan with a bouquet of a dozen yellow roses. Ms. Lakshmanan chairs the math department and teaches math, STEM and Project Lead the Way.

She was voted teacher of the year by her colleagues at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Then, from the pool of middle school teachers of the year throughout the district, she was chosen by a selection committee composed of administrators, parents, and professional association representatives. She is now one of three finalists - the others being the elementary and high school teachers of the year - for Austin's Teacher of the Year for 2009.
