AISD To Dedicate Ann Richards School For Young Women Leaders

Austin School District officials will dedicate the new Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 21. The school is located in south Austin at 2206 Prather Lane.

The school opened in August 2007 as a public school for young women in grades 6-12. In its initial year, 230 girls are enrolled in grades six and seven. One new grade will be added each year with the 12th grade being the final grade added in 2012. The school will graduate its first class in 2013.

One of only two all-girls public schools in Texas, it is named after the 45th Governor of Texas, Ann Richards, who was passionate about creating opportunities for young women and minorities. It is a public/private partnership with AISD, the Foundation for the Education of Young Women, and the Ann Richards School Advisory Board.
