Tatiana Antonio
Michelle Krejci | September 10, 2011We asked Ann Richard School stars how they fufill the ARS mission statement. Here is Tatiana's interview.
Spanish teacher, Tatiana Antonio…
Q. How do you encourage young women at the Ann Richards School to attend and graduate from college?
A. We have a tradition of high standards and focus on academic achievement. My classes prepare Stars for AP Spanish for college credit.
Q. How have you encouraged Ann Richards’s Stars to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
A. The first year, I started composting cafeteria waste, now my leadership class maintains a garden. Stars harvest vegetables, learn recipes, and try new foods they never ate before.
Q. How have you taught your Stars to lead with courage and compassion?
A. This year, the Stars will research and draft grant proposals for a new greenhouse. Learning new skills builds confidence; confidence builds leadership and courage.
Q. How do you encourage Stars to support their global community?
A. Twenty girls took a trip to Costa Rica last summer and had to interact with a difference language and culture.
Q. What do you like best about the Ann Richards School?
A. The administration encourages alternative class content and unusual programming like gardening and yoga.
